Coca-Cola Glass

Feb 26, 2017

Second attempt at glass product photography. Added some ice this time. Had some coke special edition glasses that I’ve been wanting to shoot for a while.

Sunrise at Skydeck 2017

Feb 07, 2017

To be honest I’ve been questioning myself and my abilities a lot lately. I don’t seem to be able to rise above the mediocre images that I take. I recently travelled to horse head rock and came back with no images that I liked. It seems that everything I try lately doesn’t work. I believe that I suck at my hobby but as someone who is naturally hard on themselves I don’t seem to be able to find a way to be ok with that. I shouldn’t complain too much as it looked as if it was going to be 100% cloud cover this morning so I’m thankful that I got anything at all. Seeing the hot air balloons go past was nice. How do I move forward…

Safety Beach Boat Ramp at Sunrise

Jan 09, 2017

Had to get up early for this one. It was worth it. I love jetty type shots with nice calm water. It is serenity to me (long live the browncoats!). For this one I got to try out my new Formatt Hitech Firecrest 7 stop ND Filter. I love it. I think I’m going with the Firecrest series from now on rather than b+w. B+w are great but Formatt Hitech have some amazing products.

Thought I’d try some architecture photography. I think I can improve so it’ll be interesting to keep trying.

An amazing sunset with a fiery sky and mist on a surreal day. My last image taken for the year.

Yarra Night

Dec 30, 2015

This was my first time using a Sony app with the camera. One of the advantages of the mirrorless system is that apps are available to do various tasks like being a camera remote like I used mine for. The reason a wireless remote option is so good is that the settings on the camera can be changed and a photo can be taken without touching the camera. This means that when I try to align the images in post they will be perfect as I haven’t accidentally moved the camera trying to touch one of the physical dials or buttons. I also get a preview on my phone screen although it is low resolution. One gotcha is that the app defaults to shooting in jpg mode. That was ok for these shots but I would not like to shoot that way in the future. Thankfully this has been remedied. One note is that I’m deleting the previous post from a similar angle and merging it with this post as I feel I shot it a lot better this time. The first attempt was my first time using the Sony so I made some mistakes.

Model shoot with Farshad

Sep 23, 2015

First time using the a7r2 on a proper shoot. I’m mostly impressed but also very unimpressed with other aspects of the camera. Shot using the “holy trinity”, the 35L, 85L and the 135L. It’s good to be able to use the 85L again. It does better on the a7r2 than my Canon bodies. Both the 35 and 135 focus better on any Canon body. Hopefully firmware will fix that. Also the camera kept locking up for about 10 seconds or more at a time. Extremely frustrating.

On a more positive note it was fantastic to work with Farshad. We had been talking about doing a shoot for ages. I felt that we were both collaborating well together. Hopefully the results are worth the effort. I also tried a night shot for the fun of it. I think the a7r2 does well at iso 2000.
